Sadly Olive died on October 1, 1947 at age 41. Her mother Sibbie said "Ollie died among people who really loved her and idealized her. She was happy". The Sunshine Mission, where Olive had spent her last years, paid for her funeral. The service was held at the mission on October 4. Director John Boland and actor Cornelius Keefe were among the mourners. The small church was filled with flowers and Olive held an orchid in her hand. Sister Essie West gave her eulogy. Olive was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. Sibbie Borden died on November 20, 1959 at age seventy-five. She was buried next to her only daughter. Forest Lawn has many famous residents including Carole Landis, Marie McDonald, George Burns, Clara Bow, and Michael Jackson. Two of Olive's favorite costars, Jack Oakie and Tom Mix, are also buried there. The cemetery is located at 1712 South Glendale Avenue. It is open every day from 8 AM until 5 PM. Olive's grave is plot L-1772 in the Liberty section. The words "Beloved Daughter" are on her headstone. Forest Lawn is a beautiful and peaceful place. The cemetery has a reputation for being unfriendly but fans are welcome to visit Olive's final resting place. |
